PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKING

Since its inception, HPCA has adopted a collaborative approach in working with other community organisations and government structures. This commitment to working together with others with whom we share a common goal by sharing expertise and resources has been incorporated into the current strategic plan.
Strategic Objective 3 reads: To strengthen relationships with organisations – nationally and internationally, and to act as a conduit linking member hospices to external organisations.

National Partnerships:
Key national partnerships revolve around influencing Government particularly the Departments of Health and Social Development as well as the South African public to support and utilise the palliative care services offered by HPCA member organisations. Because of its commitment to quality HPCA is officially partnered with Council for Health Services Accreditation of Southern Africa (Cohsasa).
Partnerships with various tertiary educational organisations facilitate the inclusion of palliative care into under and postgraduate courses for healthcare professionals. Linking member hospices to donor organisations and acting as a conduit for funding forms an important part of the work done by the HPCA management committee.

International Partnerships:
HPCA is working in partnership with the United States President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) to enhance the provision of sustainable, accessible, quality palliative care in South Africa through HPCA's members. HPCA gratefully acknowledges the significant contribution which PEPFAR is continuing to make to South African Hospices.

HPCA works closely with and serves on the board of numerous international palliative care organisations including the African Palliative Care Association (APCA), the Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance (WPCA); and various national associations.
A special partnership has developed with the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa (FHSSA). FHSSA is the response of the American Hospice movement to the global challenge of the overwhelming need for palliative care due to HIV/AIDS. FHSSA forms part of the National Hospice Palliative Care Organisation (USA) and is committed to increasing access to hospice and palliative care by facilitating partnerships between American and African programmes.

MISSION STATEMENT
