International Nurses' Day is celebrated annually on 12 May, the anniversary of the founder of modern day nursing, Florence Nightingale's birthday. The theme for this year is “Nurses A Voice to Lead – Health is a Human right”.

Today we will be highlighting 3 nurses of East Rand Hospice and the positive feedback they receive from their patients.

1.Sr. Tracey Scholefield has been a nurse since 1989 and with Hospice East Rand for the last five years. She cares for patients in Kempton Park.

Patient feedback for Sr Tracey: (1)

‘Sr Tracey was professional, very friendly, warm and welcoming with a good attitude towards strangers. I was impressed for the very first time I went to Hospice East Rand. It felt like home away from home.’

‘Sr Tracey is a very experienced palliative care practitioner. My brother didn’t talk about his condition to anyone else, but opened up to Sr. Tracey. I think because she know exactly how to approach him. My brother was very depressed, but after he spoke to Sr. Tracey, his daughter phoned me and told me that dad looks happy after he spoke to Sr. Tracey. She was really amazing. She brought him a wheelchair and a walking frame and my brother was very happy and appreciated those appliances very much. Sr. Tracey went the extra mile.’
